In 1914 Archduke Franz Fernando was assassinated. This assassination was the trigger of one of the biggest wars to date, WW1. WW1 lasted for 4 years and in it many people were killed. the major powers were Germany and Austria-Hungary, and the British empire. Some of the greatest battles of this war were fought on the Western Front. Most of these battles involved trenches and were classified as 'trench warfare'.
